Great Grand Masti directed
by Indra Kumar, starring Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani and Urvashi Rautela in the lead roles in this
adult romantic horror comedy film. As part of the third instalment from the
Masti series
POSITIVES
- The best thing about this film was the continuation of keeping the 3 lead stars, Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani and Riteish Deshmukh in this instalment from the Masti series. They seem to work well together in these comical adult comedy roles. They characters make you smirk even if the dialogues are weak. Plus, it almost builds a sense of stability left from the previous movie. They vaguely make their character scenarios seem convincing because as an audience we have seen them from the first film leading up to this one.
NEGATIVES
- Bad script writing, poor dialogues and a franchise that just does not seem to progress anywhere. Only thing that is being utilized to help sell such film, is the adult comedy jokes and antics, which even those are beginning to end up less funny. The storyline has a horror angle added in, created more pointless scenes when there is no convincing structure with the film. As for the dialogues, you won’t recall any standout and impressive dialogues from it. They were just one-off and leaves no striking bearing to the audience. Another drawback with the writing department, was the arranging of the songs in the film. It never flowed with the scenes, felt it was thrown in just to add a bit of seduction from the female character towards this adult comedy. No significant flow to the scene prior and after the song finished, which made it a poor viewing experience for a film as a whole package.
- As for the creative department, nothing to surprise, the story progression from one scene to another seemed basic and nothing to amaze the viewer. The scenes just don't give anything back to wanting to keep you focused to the film. There were many moments where the mindset just did not remain to the movie.
CAST
- VIVEK OBEROI - As an actor, it seems as if he just is not progressing with himself. His
on screen acting in the film was standard, nothing to make him stake his claim
as the best amongst the rest of the cast. When on screen, he was overshadowed
as the others were the cast you want to see much more of. Once Vivek has his
moments to shine on screen, it just does not work for him and for that, he was
average and nothing to be stunned about.
- AFTAB SHIVDASANI - These type of roles suits Aftab and he manages to add that quirky and
childish behaviour well on screen. He is suited to it much more than Vivek and
maintains a bit of the humour to the screen where the dialogues and script fails
to do that. His chemistry with the co-stars is fine and he manages to leave a
mark to the audiences as a character that you would want to see more of. For me
personally, he was the best amongst the rest, this is also due to this
character persona where we as an audience would associate him with these comedy,
adult, romantic films and he validates that well with his acting. Yes, it is
not a spectacle, but it is good enough to add more drama to films like this.
- RITEISH DESHMUKH - Often associated with the comedy genre, he manages to help carry the
genre on his shoulders, I felt he did well but not perfect enough to the
capabilities he has to entertain the audience, he can offer much more. But this
would be ticked off down to the writing department for not allowing a further
development with his character to get out more and utilize the comedy genre. We
get glimpses with Riteish but not a stamping performance on the movie but he
does enough to be labelled as one of the decent performers amongst the 3
leads.
- URVASHI RAUTELA - She adds the seductiveness to this adult comedy, she has been used to add something creative with the dual character of a nice ghost as well as an evil ghost. But it just does not work as the team fail to make it look creative and realistic enough. But she offers a decent performance from all the female casts. She is given a hefty presence on screen and does well to put in a performance that can be remembered for a film that offered very little to the audience to walk away with.
RATING
Overall I would rate Great Grand Masti 1/5. The film
offers nothing new and fascinating, whilst the film never really looked to have
a much anticipated gesture. Go watch this film if you have nothing to do, even
if that is the case, be prepared to sit through a dragging film that gives you
average looking entertainment. The storyline was not amazing, nor did the
writing department provide any substantial prominence and bearing to the comedy
genre, the film would be portrayed as a time-pass both for the audiences and
the cast as it does not have an impact towards their acting abilities. The
positive from this film would be to see the 3 leads, remain from the first film
of the series to this one, they work well together but even in this film they
could not save it from a letdown.
